Did You Know..... *You can recycle household batteries (among other things) at either the Landstown Transfer Station (1825 Concert Dr.) or the Virginia Beach Landfill (1989 Jake Sears Road). The Landstown location is open M-F 8am-4:30pm or Sat 8am-12pm; while the VA Bch one is open M-Sat 7am - 4:30pm. *COMPASS, a 12 hour course presented over 3 days, is for any Navy spouse - officer or enlisted, male or female - who wants to know more about Navy life. Presented by trained Volunteer Teams of experienced Navy spouses, participants are mentored through a program of topics including Navy history and traditions, pay, benefits, services, deployments, moving, communication, and local resources. Sponsored by Naval Services FamilyLine, COMPASS is a standardized program designed to impart knowledge and to encourage using this knowledge along with realistic expectations to enjoy a successful and rewarding journey as a Navy spouse and family. Offered in small group settings, the environment is welcoming, casual, and comfortable. COMPASS is free, but pre-registration is required. affordable and easy travel for service personnel, retirees and their families
on DOD owned or controlled aircraft. Since 9/11, it's more challenging
to arrange travel this way, since the flight information has been removed from
the public domain. The number of gateways has also been reduced. Go to

Travel". This site also provides free information on reduced-rate tickets for
the military on commercial flights and other bargains, such as free passes at
U.S. ski resorts, half-off rates at a Florida spa resort and discounts on

*You can obtain Airport Gate Passes for Military Passenger Family Members? The Transportation Security Administration has put out a security directive pertaining to Military Passengers. Families of military members may escort the military passenger to the gate or meet a military passenger's inbound arrival at the gate. The family member can now go to the airline that the military member is flying on and receive a pass to go to the gate. The family member will be required to have a pass and a photo ID to get past the security checkpoint. *Link of interest.... www.whileyouweredeployed.com.
